The Black Association of South Hills
For Women

BASH Scholarship Philosophy
The Black Association of South Hills for Women (BASH) was founded by African American women who believed deeply in the power of education, community, and opportunity. For decades, BASH has celebrated the achievements of Black students and invested in their futures, particularly within the greater Pittsburgh South Hills region.
Our scholarship program continues that legacy by supporting students who are committed to learning, leadership, and building more just and inclusive communities. We recognize that many young people—especially Black students and other students from historically marginalized backgrounds—often carry both extraordinary promise and disproportionate barriers. Our goal is to honor that reality without limiting opportunity by race, identity, or background.
We welcome applications from all eligible students who:
-
Demonstrate strong academic effort and integrity
-
Show leadership, service, or initiative in their schools or communities
-
Are thoughtful about issues of equity, fairness, and opportunity
-
Aspire to use their education to uplift themselves, their families, and their communities
Through this scholarship, BASH seeks to uplift stories, perspectives, and futures that reflect both our history and our hope: a world where every young person has the chance to thrive, and where the contributions of Black communities and other historically overlooked groups are fully seen, valued, and celebrated.
